Job Summary

The Division of Mental Health is seeking a highly skilled Physician Specialist Option C to join our team at the Elgin Mental Health Center. As a medical specialist in psychiatry, you will provide exceptional care to mentally ill patients, maintaining compliance with certification standards and accreditation requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Practice as a licensed physician in psychiatry, providing services to mentally ill patients.
  2. Complete thorough and timely psychiatric documentation and reports, including initial evaluations, risk assessments, and progress notes.
  3. Evaluate, prepare, and attend court testimony regarding involuntary commitment, fitness to proceed, and other issues.
  4. Participate in medical committees, unit meetings, and specialized case reviews.
  5. Maintain compliance with certification standards and accreditation requirements.
  6. Perform other duties as required or assigned.
Requirements
  1. Valid State of Illinois Physician and Surgeon License.
  2. Completion of an approved residency in psychiatry.
Preferred Qualifications
  1. Two years of experience evaluating the quality of specialized medical care and treatment for patients with mental illness.
  2. Two years of experience coordinating medical services with other professional disciplines and supportive personnel.
  3. Two years of experience conducting psychiatric exams of patients.
  4. Two years of experience identifying appropriate treatment regimes and carrying out treatment in accordance with best practices.
  5. Two years of experience communicating effectively both orally and in writing.
  6. Two years of experience preparing comprehensive medical records and reports.
Conditions of Employment
  1. Possession of a valid Illinois Controlled Substance License.
  2. Possession of a valid United States Drug Enforcement Administration Certificate of Registration.
  3. Ability to meet the requirements of and be appointed to the medical staff association of Elgin Mental Health Center within 30 days of employment.
  4. Ability to travel in the performance of job duties.
  5. Ability to stand and walk for a significant period, including stooping, bending, lifting, or exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally.
  6. Ability to participate in patient management interventions, including restraint interventions.
  7. Ability to maintain current Basic Life Support Certification.
  8. Ability to testify in court.
  9. Ability to serve as Medical Officer of the Day (MOD) after business hours, weekends, and holidays in case of emergency.
  10. Ability to pass the IDHS background check.
  11. Ability to pass a drug screen for drugs prohibited from recreational use under Illinois Law.

Work Hours: Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 4:00pm
