Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Physician Specialist Option C to join our team at the Elgin Mental Health Center. As a medical specialist in psychiatry, you will provide services to mentally ill patients and maintain compliance with certification standards and accreditation requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Practice as a medical specialist in psychiatry, providing services to mentally ill patients.
  2. Complete psychiatric documentation and reports in a thorough and timely manner.
  3. Evaluate, prepare, and attend court testimony regarding involuntary commitment, fitness to proceed, and other issues.
  4. Participate in medical committees, unit meetings, and other meetings.
  5. Maintain compliance with certification standards and accreditation requirements.
  6. Perform other duties as required or assigned.
Requirements
  1. Valid State of Illinois Physician and Surgeon License.
  2. Completion of an approved residency in the position-related medical specialty in psychiatry.
Preferred Qualifications
  1. Two years of professional experience evaluating the quality of specialized medical care and treatment for patients with mental illness.
  2. Two years of professional experience coordinating medical services with other professional disciplines and supportive personnel.
  3. Two years of professional experience conducting psychiatric exams of patients.
  4. Two years of professional experience identifying most appropriate positive treatment regime and carrying out that treatment in accordance with best practices.
  5. Two years of professional experience communicating effectively both orally and in writing.
  6. Two years of professional experience preparing comprehensive and specialized medical records and reports.
Working Conditions
  1. Requires the possession of a valid Illinois Controlled Substance License.
  2. Requires the possession of a valid United States Drug Enforcement Administration Certificate of Registration.
  3. Requires the ability to meet the requirements of and be appointed to the medical staff association of Elgin Mental Health Center within 30 days of employment.
  4. Requires the ability to travel in the performance of job duties.
  5. Requires ability to stand and walk for a significant period of time, including stooping, bending, lifting or exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally.
  6. Requires the ability to participate in patient management interventions that may include participating in restraint interventions.
  7. Requires the ability to maintain current Basic Life Support Certification.
  8. Requires the ability to testify in court.
  9. Requires the ability to serve as Medical Officer of the Day (MOD) after business hours, weekends, and holidays in case of emergency.
  10. Requires ability to pass the IDHS background check.
  11. Requires ability to pass a drug screen for drugs prohibited from recreational use under Illinois Law.
