The Assistant Pastry Chef plays a crucial role in aiding the Pastry Chef with the design and execution of the pastry menu, ensuring excellence in all facets of food production. This includes maintaining high standards of quality assurance, managing costs, fostering employee relations, and overseeing various tasks related to the pastry department.

Ideal candidates will possess a minimum of three years of managerial experience in a bustling dining environment and demonstrate expertise in French pastry techniques and presentation, applicable in both restaurant and banquet contexts. A comprehensive understanding of restaurant operations, coupled with a keen attention to detail, a strong sense of responsibility, and organizational skills, is essential. The ability to motivate and inspire staff to achieve outstanding results while balancing practicality and a commitment to excellence is paramount.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Exhibit flexibility in scheduling, including availability for nights and weekends
  • Lead and develop a team of culinary professionals (training, mentoring, recruiting, and managing performance)
  • Demonstrate a passion for both traditional and modern pastry techniques
  • Effectively manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
  • Ensure profitability and quality assurance through regular review of financial performance and purchasing
  • Oversee all aspects of kitchen operations and production
  • Uphold the standards established by The Dinex Group


Qualifications & Skills:

  • A minimum of three years of experience in a high-volume or upscale dining pastry setting, including at least one year in a leadership role
  • Extensive knowledge of pastry techniques, including the science of ingredients such as starches, fats, sugars, liquids, eggs, and flavorings
  • Ability to thrive under pressure while maintaining high productivity levels
  • Foster positive interactions with supervisors, management, colleagues, and patrons to promote teamwork and maintain a professional atmosphere
  • Produce a significant volume of high-quality work efficiently and accurately
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting business documents, professional literature, and regulatory guidelines
  • Capable of writing reports, business correspondence, and procedural documentation
  • Skilled in performing calculations related to discounts, proportions, and percentages
  • Adhere to food safety protocols
  • Possess strong leadership qualities to train and motivate the team
  • Exhibit excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Culinary training or a degree is preferred but not mandatory
  • Strong communication skills in English are required; proficiency in French and Spanish is advantageous
