Patient Care Assistant

We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Patient Care Assistant to join our team at UMass Memorial Health. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional patient care and support.
Key Responsibilities- Provide clear and timely communication to RNs regarding patient observations and changes.
- Participate in maintaining a safe environment and utilize interventions to de-escalate patients.
- Assist patients with daily living activities, such as personal hygiene, ambulation, meals, and nourishment.
- Assist with moving, lifting, positioning, and transporting patients using proper safety techniques and body mechanics.
- Perform patient safety checks, utilize fall prevention devices, and follow restraint policy standards.
- Take and record vital signs, measure and record patients' weights and heights, and perform EKGs, Point of Care tests, and bladder scanning.
- Collect, label, and prepare specimens for transport to the lab and perform other selected unit-specific procedures.
- Assist RNs/Licensed Independent Practitioners with treatments and procedures by preparing patients, obtaining equipment and supplies, and providing emotional support.
- Observe, measure, and record oral food and fluid intake, refill tube feeding bags, and empty and record output from various sources.
- Assist with patient admissions, transfers, and discharge procedures, replenish patient and unit supplies and equipment, and answer telephones using appropriate etiquette.
- Minimum of a high school education or GED.
- Current Basic Life Support or Heart Saver certification.
- Demonstrated clinical experience in a similar setting or other certification required.
- Ability to read, write, and communicate in English in a clear and concise manner.
- Strong interpersonal skills to gather information, build relationships, and provide exceptional service to patients.
- Proven problem-solving abilities for routine situations and requests assistance when needed.
- Prior inpatient/outpatient care experience or clinical care training.
- Medical Terminology and computer skills.
