The Industrial Equipment Technician plays a crucial role in interpreting and applying technical drawings, schematics, manuals, and procedural guidelines to effectively maintain and repair heavy machinery. This position is accountable to the Lead Technician or Foreman as designated.
Key Responsibilities:
This role encompasses a variety of tasks, which may include, but are not limited to:
- Calibrating and servicing industrial machinery through the use of control systems and regulatory devices.
- Maintaining, repairing, or replacing components such as transmissions and crawler heads with hand tools, jacks, and cranes.
- Dismantling and reassembling heavy equipment utilizing hoists and hand tools.
- Assembling gear systems and ensuring proper alignment of frames and gears.
- Cleaning components by applying grease solvents or immersing them in cleaning solutions.
- Conducting routine maintenance on equipment and vehicles, including lubrication and cleaning.
- Diagnosing mechanical issues using advanced diagnostic tools and calibration devices.
- Inspecting parts for wear and damage with precision measuring instruments.
- Fabricating necessary components from sheet metal as required.
- Fitting bearings to adjust, repair, or overhaul mobile mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
- Operating and evaluating machinery or heavy marine equipment to identify defects.
- Overhauling and testing machines to ensure optimal operational efficiency.
- Repairing and replacing worn or damaged components.
- Diagnosing and troubleshooting electrical systems.
- Coordinating maintenance schedules for industrial machines and maintaining service records, including parts inventory management.
- Testing mechanical products post-repair to ensure compliance with manufacturer specifications.
- Welding or soldering broken components and structural parts using appropriate tools.
- Adhering to technical documentation and reporting discrepancies in tolerances and conditions, while suggesting corrective actions.
- Possessing a strong mechanical aptitude and the ability to follow detailed instructions.
- Reading and interpreting technical manuals and drawings accurately.
- Conducting inspections of work performed, identifying potential issues, and initiating corrective measures.
- Promoting awareness of quality standards within the department.
- Contributing as an effective team member to achieve daily objectives set by management.
- Understanding USN Standard Items and possessing knowledge of valve repair and pump overhaul.
- Adjusting and maintaining industrial machinery with a focus on alignment techniques.
- High School Diploma or equivalent from a technical institution or relevant experience in a mechanical role.
- Preferred industrial or marine mechanical experience:
- Journeyman 3: 5+ years or specialized training.
- Journeyman 2: 3-5 years.
- Journeyman 1: 1-3 years.
- Ability to perform basic arithmetic and measurements using the metric system.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in a shipyard or industrial setting.
- Eligibility for TWIX card and DBIDS credentials as required.
- Successful completion of a drug screening.
- Possession of a valid U.S. Driver's License.
- Exposure to open-air conditions, including noise, temperature variations, and controlled office environments.
- Potential visits to projects aboard ships and rigs, including confined spaces, necessitating the use of personal protective equipment.
- Handling of hot and hazardous materials.
- Physical demands may include climbing (up to 100 feet) and lifting (up to 50 lbs.).
- Work may involve navigating various surfaces and angles, bending, crouching, and climbing over obstacles.
