Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Safety Specialist to join our team at the Idaho National Laboratory. As a key member of our Environment, Health, Safety and Quality department, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safe, secure, and environmentally compliant operations and spaces within our facility.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide technical support and innovative solutions to assigned projects or tasks, utilizing knowledge of safety practices, engineering, materials, processes, applicable regulatory requirements, and standards.
  • Serve as a safety professional on assigned projects or tasks and provide technical support and information to line management, including support on complex safety issues.
  • Conduct periodic field assessments, including area/job walk-downs, to evaluate the implementation of company safety programs and policies.
  • Prepare assessment plans and evaluation criteria, and coordinate participation with other safety disciplines/team members as necessary.
  • Communicate identified issues and concerns to the appropriate management teams and work with management to determine solutions and prepare corrective actions.
  • Enter and manage issues and findings in the company issues management system and provide follow-up with management regarding implementation of necessary corrective actions.
  • Interface with the customer on assessments they conduct and provide technical support to the work organizations in the interpretation and implementation of assigned safety program.
  • Evaluate organizational risks and prioritize goals and objectives to ensure management assessment program is effective.
  • Serve on hazard evaluation groups to identify, analyze, and control hazards and review work control documents and site plans.
Requirements
  • A Bachelor of Science in industrial safety or related safety field and 2 years relative experience, or Masters of Science in industrial safety or related safety field and one year experience.
  • A Bachelor of Science in Industrial Safety/Occupational Safety and Health with five (5) years relative experience, or Masters of Science in Industrial Safety/Occupational Safety and Health or related degree with three (3) year of experience.
  • A Certified Safety Professional Designation is desired but not required.
  • Upon hire must meet minimum internal Qualifications for STD-14101 for a safety engineer within 6 months.
  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy "L" clearance, which requires US Citizenship.
