Position Overview

Idaho National Laboratory is seeking a Safety Professional to join our Environment, Health, Safety, and Quality department. This role operates on a 4x10 onsite schedule, providing a unique work-life balance with every Friday off. You will report directly to the Environment, Safety, Health, and Quality Infrastructure Transformation Program Manager, taking essential actions to uphold safe, secure, and environmentally compliant operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as a safety expert on designated projects, delivering technical support and innovative solutions aligned with the organization's mission and objectives. Utilize your expertise in safety practices, engineering principles, materials, processes, and regulatory standards.
  • Offer technical guidance to management on complex safety matters, ensuring adherence to safety programs and policies. Communicate requirements effectively for both planned and existing activities.
  • Provide safety oversight and peer reviews across various laboratory teams and projects, leveraging your knowledge of safety principles and applicable regulations.
  • Conduct regular field assessments, including job walk-downs, to evaluate the implementation of safety programs. Prepare assessment plans, communicate findings to management, and collaborate on corrective actions.
  • Support work organizations in interpreting and implementing assigned safety programs, ensuring compliance and effectiveness.
  • Assess organizational risks and prioritize objectives to enhance the management assessment program.
  • Participate in hazard evaluation groups to identify and mitigate potential risks, reviewing work control documents and site plans as necessary.

Qualifications:

  • Level 2: Bachelor’s degree in industrial safety or a related field with 2 years of relevant experience, or a Master’s degree with 1 year of experience.
  • Level 3: Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Safety/Occupational Safety and Health with 5 years of relevant experience, or a Master’s degree with 3 years of experience. A Certified Safety Professional designation is preferred.
  • Must meet internal qualifications for safety engineering within 6 months of hire.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy "L" clearance, requiring U.S. citizenship.

Compensation and Benefits:

  • Salary Grade: Level 2 ($63,528 - $130,284) / Level 4 ($75,804 - $155,496), determined by education and experience.
