This role operates on a 4x10 onsite schedule, allowing for every Friday off. Reporting to the Environment, Safety, Health, and Quality Infrastructure Transformation Program Manager, you will play a crucial role in ensuring safe, secure, and environmentally compliant operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Act as a safety expert on designated projects, offering technical support and innovative solutions aligned with the organization's mission, utilizing extensive knowledge of safety practices, engineering principles, and regulatory standards.
- Provide guidance and technical information to management on complex safety matters, ensuring compliance with safety programs and policies. Communicate requirements effectively for both planned and existing activities.
- Support safety initiatives across laboratory teams, leveraging expertise in safety principles and regulatory requirements to promote a culture of safety.
- Conduct regular field assessments, including job walk-downs, to evaluate the implementation of safety programs. Prepare assessment plans and coordinate with other safety professionals as needed.
- Deliver technical support in the interpretation and execution of safety programs, ensuring organizational risks are evaluated and prioritized effectively.
- Participate in hazard evaluation groups to identify and mitigate risks, reviewing work control documents and site plans to ensure safety standards are met.
Qualifications:
- Level 2: A Bachelor’s degree in industrial safety or a related field with 2 years of relevant experience, or a Master’s degree in the same field with 1 year of experience.
- Level 3: A Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Safety or Occupational Safety and Health with 5 years of relevant experience, or a Master’s degree in a related field with 3 years of experience. A Certified Safety Professional designation is preferred.
- Must meet internal qualifications for safety engineer roles within 6 months of hire.
- This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy "L" clearance, necessitating U.S. citizenship.
Compensation and Benefits:
- Salary Grade: Level 2 ($63,528 - $130,284) / Level 4 ($75,804 - $155,496), determined by education and relevant experience.
