At Actalent, we are seeking a skilled Medical Specimen Collector to join our team in Washington, D.C.

The primary function of this role is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations.

The Medical Specimen Collector will be responsible for:

  • Collecting and storing specimens according to established procedures
  • Properly explaining the process of venipuncture, blood drawing, and/or other specimen collection to patients
  • Demonstrating techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles
  • Matching laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes
  • Labeling, centrifuging, splitting, and freezing specimens as required by test order
  • Checking all test requisitions or computer labels against script to ensure 100% accuracy
  • Packaging specimens for transport
  • Storing specimen samples according to required temperature and following different procedures as outlined by protocol to maintain integrity of the specimen
  • Understanding and complying with OSHA and DEP regulations
  • Attending annual department trainings
  • Answering telephone calls and reading laboratory results to satisfy inquiries

The ideal candidate will have experience in blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data, decontamination, updating patient information, and venipuncture techniques.
