**Job Summary:**

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Medical Office Assistant to join our team at the Mount Sinai Health System. As a Medical Office Assistant, you will play a vital role in providing clinical and administrative support to physicians and surgeons.

About the Role:

This is a full-time position that requires two years of experience working as a medical assistant. Some relevant medical office/phlebotomy experience is desirable. Venipuncture and EKG skills are required. The ideal candidate will be certified as a Medical Assistant from an approved school and have Heartsaver Certification from the American Heart Association and/or BCLS.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in patient care responsibilities, which may include performing venipuncture and/or EKGs, checking schedules and organizing patient flow; accompanying patients to exam/procedure room, assisting patients as needed with walking, transferring and dressing, as well as collecting and processing specimens and point of care testing.
  • Fulfill clerical responsibilities, which may include sending and receiving patient medical records; obtaining lab/x-ray reports, hospital notes, referral information, etc.
  • Enter orders into the electronic medical record (EMR) system or prepare prescription refill requests on behalf of the physician for review and approval by the ordering physician.
  • Inventories, orders or re-stocks medical supplies as applicable.
  • Provide set-up of examination room and instruments in accordance with proper sterilization techniques established by hospital and infection control policies.
  • Maintain logging system as required for refrigeration of medications, point of care testing, sterilization process, crash cart, point of care testing or others as needed.
  • Check expiration dates on all medications and medical supplies disposing appropriately as per institution policy.
  • Maintain a safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following standards and procedures; comply with legal regulations.
  • Comply with established personal protective equipment requirements necessary for protection against exposure to blood and other potentially infectious body fluids, chemical disinfectants, radiation and other hazardous substances.
  • Assist in the maintenance of medical charts (filing, Op Reports, test results, home care forms).
  • Schedule surgeries/procedures or work in conjunction with Surgical Coordinator verifying times with patients; preparing charts, pre-admissions and consent forms.
  • Perform proficient phlebotomy duties.
  • Schedule appointments and registration for patients as well as update patient demographic and insurance information.
  • Maintain, adjust and confirm patient office schedule.
  • Verify and update insurance information utilizing internal or web sources.
  • Perform and verify pre-certification for procedures as necessary.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
