Position Overview: The Electrical Power and Control Systems (EPCS) Department is seeking skilled and driven engineers specializing in Electrical Propulsion and Power Systems (EPPS). The role involves collaboration with multidisciplinary engineering teams to innovate electric and hybrid electric propulsion and power systems for undersea vehicles.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the comprehensive design and development process for competitive and efficient electric and hybrid propulsion systems.
- Engage in the identification of system requirements and their functional allocation.
- Conduct detailed design phases, including market analysis, alternative assessments, and preparation of functional design documents.
- Utilize advanced CAD tools to capture approved hardware designs and validate their compliance with established requirements.
- Implement advanced hardware-in-the-loop testing methods to ensure successful integration with larger systems.
- Facilitate laboratory and field testing of prototype EPPS to confirm final design efficacy.
Qualifications:
This position may be filled at various levels based on education and experience, typically requiring a Bachelor's Degree in an Engineering or Science discipline. Additional qualifications may be necessary for higher positions.
Essential Skills:
- Proficiency in CAD tools for design and documentation.
- Ability to collaborate within or lead technical teams effectively.
- Hands-on experience with electronics, including building and troubleshooting hardware.
- Experience in low and high voltage power conversion and battery systems, particularly lithium-based chemistries, is advantageous.
Preferred Skills:
- Familiarity with LabVIEW and Matlab (including Simulink and Stateflow) for simulation and control.
- Experience with mechanical CAD tools such as Siemens NX and Solidworks.
- Knowledge of electrical CAD tools like Altium Design Suite.
- Experience with battery management systems (BMS) and battery testing equipment.
- Proficiency in embedded C/C++ and VHDL/Verilog firmware languages is a plus.
- Prior training and experience in high voltage systems are beneficial.
Work Environment: This role requires full on-site presence and may involve periodic travel for field testing.
