Lead Construction Engineering Technician

This position is responsible for assisting with the design and construction of regional water projects. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in construction engineering and experience working with water infrastructure systems. The position will involve performing general and advanced construction and field observation, as well as assisting with the development of plans and specifications for water projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform general and advanced construction and field observation to ensure compliance with plans and specifications.
- Assist with the development of plans and specifications for water projects.
- Utilize knowledge of surveying, staking procedures, and pipeline construction requirements to field route pipelines as necessary.
- Provide oversight of construction activities related to water towers, including review of all aspects of tank coating prep and application.
- Read and interpret construction plans and specifications to ensure adherence by the contractor during the construction process.
- Interact with and monitor performance of contractors and assist field staff to address design compliance issues with contractors when identified.
- Write documentation for as-built drawings when adjustments are made to designs.
- Complete detailed construction reports using MS Word, MS Excel, and construction management software systems.
- Utilize ArcGIS and HRUN to assist with hydraulic modeling and drafting/designing projects.
- Assist with training and scheduling of staff.
- Work directly with both internal and external clients and contractors.
- Perform submittal control reviews.
- May assist with establishing budgets, proposal preparation/presentation, and fee development.
- Under the direction of Project Engineer/Project Manager, may interact with vendors in selection of equipment.
Requirements:
- Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, ArcGIS, and water modeling software.
- Knowledge of pipeline distribution systems, elevated/ground storage tanks, regional water supply systems, water treatment plants, and pump stations.
Education and Experience:
High School Diploma or equivalent required. 2-year degree from technical school or college, or equivalent experience preferred. 10+ years' construction, survey, and/or field observation experience, with 5+ years as a project lead required. Proficiency in MS Word and MS Excel required. Must have ability to pass certifications. Experience and knowledge of materials testing required. AutoCAD or ArcGIS experience is helpful.
