JOB SUMMARY
This role is pivotal in managing procurement activities related to the company's inventory requirements. The items must be acquired within the company's cost and quality standards, ensuring timely delivery that aligns with company policies and performance metrics. Regular collaboration with Sales and Suppliers is essential.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversee technical, customer relations, and personnel management for significant programs and projects.
  • Order Management - Review daily purchasing guides and issue purchase orders as necessary with suppliers. Ensure accuracy in quantities, freight, pricing, and timelines in accordance with company policies and performance standards. Collaborate with finance and vendors regarding payment terms.
  • Inventory Reporting - Analyze and respond to system-generated reports to maintain optimal inventory levels, including Out of Stock and Over-allocated Reports.
  • Order Confirmations - Validate all purchase orders for precise pricing, quantities, freight, and delivery dates.
  • Inventory Oversight - Utilize weekly reports and meetings to achieve optimal inventory levels, manage product dates, and handle returns. Coordinate with logistics for timely product deliveries.
  • Vendor and Item Management - Update item and vendor data in the system as necessary, including pricing, freight, and shipping points.
  • Maintain daily communication with the Sales team.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education
High School Diploma or equivalent / Bachelor’s Degree Preferred

Experience
2 years of experience in purchasing or food distribution is required.

Experience in foodservice distribution is preferred.

Skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook, along with excellent organizational and follow-up skills, is required.

Experience with AS400 is preferred.

Decision-Making Authority

  • Daily Procurement Decisions - Determine which items and quantities to purchase.
  • Supplier Selection - Decide which vendor products to procure.
  • Inventory Management Decisions - Manage product movement and shelf-life considerations.
  • Occasional price negotiations with vendors.
  • Most significant decisions require review and approval from supervisors or higher management.
  • Expediting or changing vendor sources - subject to supervisor or VP of Merchandising approval.
  • Accounting variances - subject to supervisor or VP of Merchandising approval.
