Position Overview
This is a full-time role with day shifts, typically scheduled from Monday to Friday, 7 AM to 3:30 PM, including variable shifts and assigned on-call duties.
Role Summary:
The Surgical Technologist is responsible for performing scrub duties and assisting in the comprehensive nursing care of surgical patients throughout the surgical process.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure a safe, efficient, and supportive environment for surgical patients.
- Utilize knowledge of normal and pathological anatomy, physiology, and pharmacologic agents to tailor patient care.
- Implement aseptic techniques to provide optimal patient care while respecting patient privacy and dignity.
- Prepare and understand the specific applications of all surgical equipment and supplies, demonstrating proficiency in the step-by-step processes of surgical procedures.
- Anticipate the surgeon's needs to facilitate procedures, minimizing patient exposure to surgical and anesthetic stress.
- Enhance organizational skills and assist the surgeon in optimizing time, motion, and material usage.
- Recognize emergency situations and apply established protocols to respond effectively and calmly.
- Complete a minimum of 10 hours of continuing education annually and maintain certification, while also training and instructing students and staff in the scrub role.
- Engage in providing in-service training to colleagues regarding the surgical technologist role.
- Demonstrate professionalism and efficiency in all aspects of surgical care, recognizing the importance of teamwork and cooperation.
- Adhere to all compliance responsibilities associated with the position.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Education Requirements:
High School Graduate or Equivalent
Qualifications:
Required: Certification as a Surgical Technologist.
Minimum Experience: One year in a relevant role.
Working Conditions:
Manual Skills: Significant manual dexterity and coordination required.
Occupational Risks: High level of occupational risk involved.
Physical Effort: Very heavy physical effort; may require lifting up to 50 lbs.
Physical Environment: Significant exposure to various environmental factors.
