Position Overview

As a Senior Trust Administration Specialist, you will collaborate closely with financial advisors and trust clients to cultivate, enhance, and broaden their engagements with Ameriprise Financial. Your primary duties will encompass fiduciary management of intricate estate and personal trust accounts, including the examination and interpretation of Wills and Trust agreements. You will engage with attorneys, financial advisors, and clients regarding the establishment, management, and operation of trust accounts. Additionally, you will play a crucial role in fostering and maintaining strong client relationships, delivering exceptional customer service, and ensuring client loyalty.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee comprehensive trust account servicing, which includes initial and ongoing account evaluations, discretionary distribution assessments, and relationship development with advisors, clients, and legal professionals. You will also research legal matters, possess in-depth knowledge of state and federal regulations governing trust administration, and execute actions as dictated by governing documents such as Wills, Trusts, Codicils, Amendments, and Contracts. Participation in Trust Administrative Sub-Committee meetings is essential, along with conducting annual administrative account reviews.
  • Collaborate with advisors, attorneys, accountants, and family members to facilitate timely and precise estate settlements. This involves reviewing documents to ascertain dispositive provisions, approving final expense payments, coordinating the collection of materials for tax returns, and ensuring proper distributions to beneficiaries while maintaining ongoing communication with all parties involved.
  • Support the sales process for Personal Trust services by analyzing documents, proposing amendments, negotiating terms, and conducting necessary legal research. You will oversee the establishment and funding of accounts and identify core business opportunities within the Ameriprise Financial Advisor channel through proactive outreach. Active participation in Trust Administrative Sub-Committee meetings to address new business, terminations, and discretionary distributions is also required.
  • Coordinate the preparation of trust tax returns and Agency letters with accountants, addressing any coding issues that may affect return preparation. You will develop new policies and procedures to implement enhancements and changes, review tax returns for managed accounts, and assist team members to ensure timely and accurate completion of all returns.
  • Lead or contribute to various projects as a subject matter expert, including IRA development, coordination with Financial Planning, litigation settlements, and system conversions.

Required Qualifications

  • 7-10 years of relevant experience in trust administration.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Background in trust investments and/or experience with brokerage and alternative channels for trust services.
  • Possession of FINRA Series 7, 63, 65/66 licenses.
  • Experience in trust management is advantageous.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational abilities and attention to detail.
  • Capability to prioritize tasks and ensure follow-through.
  • Proficient analytical and problem-solving skills.
