Position Overview
The Transmission Operations Supervisor is responsible for guiding the team in executing daily operations related to Transmission electrical utility tasks, ensuring customer satisfaction, maintaining crew safety, tracking employee hours, conducting daily and weekly safety briefings/inspections, and coordinating project utility locations. This role necessitates a comprehensive understanding of Transmission systems, oversight of multiple teams, management of storm response crews, scheduling, and resource coordination. The Supervisor interprets project blueprints and is accountable for production efficiency, training, and the safety of the workforce. This position supervises several overhead utility line teams and collaborates with both internal and external departments to manage logistical support.
Key Responsibilities- Communicates corporate policies, objectives, and goals to team members, ensuring adherence.
- Executes work orders in the field according to the Transmission Overhead Construction, Distribution Design Standard, and Overhead & Underground Construction Standards manuals.
- Adheres to accounting protocols for all materials required for projects, ensuring accurate documentation through work orders.
- Guarantees proper training for all team members, including coaching, mentoring, career development, and providing recognition while upholding the highest standards of ethics and integrity.
- Accountable for achieving safety, financial, customer satisfaction, reliability, and environmental objectives of the company as they pertain to Transmission, Construction, and Maintenance.
- Collaborates with team members, peers, management at all levels, various company departments, and external clients regarding daily operations and both short-term and long-term projects.
- Fosters a safety-oriented work environment by leading and motivating others to adhere to company safety protocols and best practices.
- Performs additional responsibilities and tasks as assigned.
- Several years of supervisory and/or leadership experience.
- A minimum of two years of experience in the operation and/or construction and maintenance of Transmission electrical systems.
- Valid state driver's license.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- At least three years of supervisory experience in Transmission.
- Seven years of experience in Transmission electrical utility operations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate's Degree.
- OSHA 20 certification.
- Familiarity with environmental compliance and regulatory requirements, including hazardous waste and yard management.
- Experience with procurement processes.
- Knowledge of labor relations and diversity issues, including the application of union agreements.
- Proficiency in safe work practices, construction/maintenance methods, techniques, tools, and equipment.
- Experience with Microsoft Excel and Word.
- Ability to analyze information, make informed decisions with moderate to significant business impact, and develop and implement strategies.
- Achieving results through others by prioritizing tasks, delegating responsibilities, monitoring progress, and holding team members accountable.
- Utilizing effective resource and project planning, decision-making, results delivery, team building, and staying updated with relevant technology and innovations.
This position operates in a field environment, requiring extended periods of bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, lifting, and standing. The role involves working in various weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, rain, ice, snow, and wind.
The physical demands outlined here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. This role is physically active, necessitating the ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Clarity of vision at 20 feet or more or 20 inches or less, with the ability to judge distance and spatial relationships, is essential. Precise hand-eye coordination and the ability to identify and distinguish colors are also required.
