Position Summary:

The Marketing and Communications Specialist plays a vital role in three main areas: communications, marketing, and public relations. This position is responsible for conveying the organization's key messages and promoting its programs, products, and services to various target audiences. This includes aiding in the development and implementation of marketing and communication strategies, engaging in public relations efforts through both traditional and digital media, and providing editorial support for the organization's academic journal and magazine, along with other communication initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage Marketing and Communications Initiatives: Assist in executing marketing and communication plans by crafting compelling marketing content for email and social media, creating web pages, tracking performance metrics, and developing digital media assets including graphics and videos. Utilize innovative tools for content generation.
  • Content Curation: Continuously monitor various sources for relevant content for the organization's magazine, including news from member institutions and media outlets.
  • Media Relations: Maintain databases of media contacts and communication department contacts at member institutions.
  • Social Media Management: Develop and manage social media content for the academic journal on platforms like Twitter and LinkedIn.
  • Newsletter Coordination: Oversee the distribution of bi-monthly and monthly newsletters to members.
  • Press Release Development: Research and write press releases as required.

Graphic Design Support:

  • Design layouts for print materials such as brochures and flyers using design software.
  • Create graphic designs for digital platforms based on team input.
  • Assist in developing marketing materials for the organization and its affiliated brands.
  • Design presentation templates for meetings.
  • Source images and maintain graphic libraries.
  • Help produce short animated video presentations.

Administrative Duties:

  • Coordinate meetings among team members.
  • Manage logistics for shipping communication materials.
  • Maintain inventory for the communications department.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Marketing, Advertising, Business, or a related field.
  • 1-3 years of relevant experience, preferably in a non-profit environment.
  • Knowledge of current marketing trends and best practices.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Creative and innovative thinking abilities.
  • Excellent customer service skills for both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects effectively.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience with InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator.
