Position Summary:
The Marketing and Communications Specialist plays a vital role in three key areas: communications, marketing, and public relations. This position is responsible for conveying the Association's essential messages and promoting its programs, products, and services to members and targeted audiences. Responsibilities include assisting in the development and implementation of marketing and communication strategies, engaging in public relations outreach through various media channels, providing editorial support for the Association's academic journal, the American Journal of Pharmaceutical Education (AJPE), and its publication, Academic Pharmacy Now, along with general communications assistance. The specialist will also aid in the creation, production, and distribution of Association materials, which encompass editorial and graphic design components. Collaboration with other teams and departments, as well as with members from pharmacy colleges and schools, is a frequent aspect of this role. Administrative responsibilities include scheduling meetings, managing project files, and supporting the Communications team.
Key Responsibilities:
Management of Marketing and Communications Initiatives
- Assist in executing both new and ongoing marketing and communication strategies by crafting compelling marketing content for digital platforms, developing program web pages, analyzing marketing metrics, and creating digital media assets such as graphics and videos. Employ innovative tools to generate engaging content for various digital platforms.
- Continuously monitor and review multiple sources for content relevant to Academic Pharmacy Now, including news from member institutions and media outlets.
- Maintain databases of media contacts, including trade and consumer press, as well as communications contacts at member institutions.
- Develop and manage social media content for the American Journal of Pharmaceutical Education on platforms like Twitter and LinkedIn.
- Coordinate the distribution of bi-monthly newsletters to members.
- Oversee the monthly Career e-Newsletter distribution.
- Research and draft press releases as necessary.
Graphic Design Support
- Create layouts for print materials such as brochures and flyers using design software.
- Design graphics for websites and social media pages based on input from staff.
- Assist in developing marketing materials for AACP and its associated brands.
- Design presentation templates for meetings and initiatives.
- Source images from stock photo libraries and maintain the graphic libraries.
- Contribute to the creation of short-form animated video presentations.
Administrative Duties
- Coordinate and schedule meetings between Communications team members and other staff.
- Manage the packing and shipping of communication materials for meetings and conferences.
- Maintain inventory for the communications department.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Communications, Marketing, Advertising, Business, or a related field.
- 1-3 years of experience in a related field, preferably within a non-profit organization.
- Familiarity with current marketing best practices and trends.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
- Creative and innovative thinking abilities.
- Strong customer service orientation for both internal and external stakeholders.
- Able to manage multiple projects while maintaining a focus on customer service.
- Ability to thrive in a collaborative team environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Access).
- Fluency in InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator CC.
