As a pivotal member of the Stelvio Group, the Senior Portfolio Manager will report directly to the PMO Vice President. This role is essential in fostering collaboration between business and technology teams to create a cohesive overview of the enterprise portfolio of projects, aimed at achieving strategic advantages that align with growth and operational efficiency goals.

The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in solution delivery and will utilize a diverse skill set in methodologies such as business process optimization, comprehensive project lifecycle management (including iterative, waterfall, and agile approaches), financial oversight, and the integration of business strategy into execution. Close collaboration with both business and technology teams will be crucial in developing a unified perspective of the enterprise, ensuring that business and technology initiatives are aligned to deliver maximum value.

Key Responsibilities in Project & Portfolio Management

  • Collaborate with PMO leadership to uphold adherence to established project management and technology processes; conduct analyses of non-compliance and identify areas for enhancement.
  • Develop project and portfolio definitions/charters that align with strategic objectives, business benefits, financial considerations, technology design, and overall value creation.
  • Engage with business and technology teams to evaluate current capabilities and outline high-level requirements.
  • Transform internal client needs into actionable value by actively participating in the development of realistic and well-structured project plans.
  • Work alongside PMO leaders to refine resource planning, acquisition, and utilization strategies for both employees and contractors.
  • Ensure governance, reporting, and oversight for the portfolio, guaranteeing that project objectives are met within the approved timeframe, scope, and budget.
  • Utilize data effectively to manage resources, timelines, and scope, while also addressing risks and limitations.
  • Adopt a metrics-driven approach to enhance delivery benchmarks annually, focusing on quality, timeliness, and benefits realized across all projects.

Leadership, Collaboration & Communication

  • Maintain an in-depth understanding of the portfolio, ready to discuss value, financials, and progress with various stakeholders, including executive leadership.
  • Proactively manage the portfolio vision, alerting stakeholders to any deviations from goals and anticipating potential risks.
  • Exhibit the ability to advocate for initiatives; understand stakeholder motivations, listen to their concerns, and address them effectively.
  • Manage and mitigate conflicts, providing a stabilizing influence within project teams.
  • Be invited by project teams and key business stakeholders to contribute to significant project decisions.
  • Collaborate closely with technology and PMO teams to effectively manage the interplay between business and technology.
  • Build and sustain strong relationships with technology partners, business stakeholders, and executive sponsors of initiatives.
  • Ensure that all relevant stakeholders are informed and involved in key decisions regarding projects and the overall portfolio.
  • Champion the importance of project management and serve as an ambassador for the project delivery team.

Team Development

  • Mentor project teams and provide timely feedback to enhance performance.
  • Be accountable for the success of projects within the portfolio.
  • Guide team members in developing business analysis and project management skills, applying industry best practices for continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate with the PMO team to establish annual performance objectives and communicate progress against these goals, ensuring each team member has a comprehensive individual development plan.

Qualifications

  • PMP certification is mandatory.
  • A minimum of 10 years of relevant experience, with a focus on strategic solution delivery.
  • Experience managing programs with budgets exceeding $10 million.
  • A Master's degree in Strategy, Finance, Technology, or Operations is preferred.
  • Certifications in Life Insurance, Annuities, and Retirement from recognized industry organizations are advantageous.
  • Demonstrated executive presence and exceptional communication skills.
  • Familiarity with operational functions within the life insurance or annuity sectors is preferred.
  • Comprehensive understanding of technology terminology and the ability to engage with IT teams.
  • Strong financial acumen for reporting on large portfolio budgets.
  • Awareness of industry trends and regulations to ensure accurate project governance and financial reporting.
  • Ability to prioritize initiatives based on understanding of Business/IT projects.
  • Capability to assess short and long-term impacts of various options and make informed decisions based on cost-benefit analysis and business acumen.
  • Proficiency in forecasting resource and financial trends based on prevailing conditions.
  • Ability to identify, communicate, and manage risks while minimizing team anxiety and potential losses.
