This recruitment aims to create an employment list to address current and future openings within the General Services Agency. The expected duration of the employment list is six months. Interested candidates are encouraged to submit an online application for consideration.

Multiple positions available within the General Services Agency.

Key Responsibilities

Perform cleaning duties in offices and restrooms; sweep, mop, wax, strip, vacuum, and scrub floors, stairways, and hallways; vacuum and shampoo carpets; dust, polish, and wash furniture; clean light fixtures, vents, walls, sinks, windows, window shades, blinds, ashtrays, drinking fountains, and utility sinks; empty waste receptacles; assist in moving and arranging furniture and equipment and setting up rooms for special events; may perform minor non-technical repairs such as replacing lights, adjusting shades or blinds, or rearranging desks and other furniture; operate electrical floor polishing machines; may sweep outdoor areas and sidewalks; ensure the security of the building before leaving by locking doors and turning off lights; prepare route worksheets, time cards, and lists of supplies needed; maintain the cleanliness and order of the utility storage area and custodial equipment; may refuel equipment and auxiliary tanks in a Public Works environment.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Equivalent to completion of the twelfth (12th) grade.

Experience: One (1) year of custodial, janitorial, housekeeping, or related cleaning experience.

Knowledge of: Basic math sufficient for adding working hours; knowledge of operation and maintenance of standard custodial equipment.

Skills/Abilities: Effectively communicate and work with individuals from diverse educational and socioeconomic backgrounds; operate contemporary office equipment including computers and keyboards; utilize appropriate cleaning solutions and equipment; maintain custodial equipment; follow verbal and written instructions; comprehend instructions in equipment maintenance manuals and on cleaning supplies; collaborate with supervisors, co-workers, and others encountered during duties; observe safe work practices; assess when cleaning is necessary and determine the proper equipment and solutions to use; accurately mix cleaning solutions; maintain cleaning equipment; identify safety hazards.

License or Certificate: Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid California driver's license.

Special Requirements: For positions in County detention facilities, applicants must undergo a law enforcement background investigation and receive security clearance from the appropriate authorities, maintaining that clearance throughout employment.

Conditions of Employment
Selected candidates will be required to pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol screening. A background investigation may also be conducted, which may include a re-investigation every ten years for certain positions. Employment Eligibility Verification using E-Verify may be required on the first day of employment for some roles. Some job classifications may also necessitate a physical examination.

Benefit Amount: An annual benefit amount is available and may be applied towards health insurance premiums (medical, dental, vision, and life). This benefit is pro-rated and paid on a pay period basis (24 pay periods).

Health Insurance: A choice of PPO and HMO medical plans, including dental and vision coverage, with dependent coverage available.

Retirement: The retirement plan is a defined benefit plan administered pursuant to the County Employees Retirement Act, integrated with Social Security. In addition to ordinary retirement benefits, the plan provides disability and death benefits. Contributions are made by both the County and the employee.

Paid Holiday Leave: 12 set days and 1 personal holiday.

Vacation Accrual:
2 weeks per year (0-3 years of service)
3 weeks per year (3-7 years of service)
4 weeks per year (7-11 years of service)
5 weeks per year (11+ years of service)
Limit of 300 hours.

Sick Leave Accrual: 12 days per year with unlimited accumulation, 50 hours of which may be used toward family sick leave.

Group Term Life Insurance and AD&D: $10,000; Provided by Standard Insurance Company.

Disability Insurance: Employees are covered by State Disability Insurance. The premium is paid by the employee.

Deferred Compensation: A voluntary deferred compensation plan is available.
