Culinary Specialist II

The Department of Developmental Services - Porterville Developmental Center is seeking a highly skilled Culinary Specialist II to join our team. As a key member of our culinary staff, you will be responsible for preparing and cooking food for clients and employees, maintaining a clean and safe kitchen environment, and supervising and training junior staff members.
Key Responsibilities- Prepare and cook food for clients and employees in accordance with established recipes and food safety guidelines.
- Maintain a clean and safe kitchen environment, including cleaning and sanitizing equipment and utensils, and adhering to food safety protocols.
- Supervise and train junior staff members, including Cook Specialists I and kitchen helpers, to ensure they are performing their duties safely and effectively.
- Act as a lead cook in the absence of the Supervising Cook I, overseeing the kitchen staff and ensuring that food is prepared and served in a timely and efficient manner.
- Collaborate with other kitchen staff members to plan and prepare meals, and to ensure that food is served in a way that meets the needs of clients with dietary restrictions or preferences.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the Supervising Cook I or other management staff.
This position requires the ability to work in a fast-paced kitchen environment, with frequent exposure to heat, noise, and physical demands. The successful candidate will be able to lift, push, and pull heavy objects, and will be required to stand and walk for extended periods of time. The position also requires the ability to work in a team environment, with frequent communication and collaboration with other kitchen staff members.
Requirements- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- 2+ years of experience in a commercial kitchen environment, with a focus on food preparation and cooking.
- Ability to lift, push, and pull heavy objects, and to stand and walk for extended periods of time.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced kitchen environment, with frequent exposure to heat, noise, and physical demands.
- Ability to work in a team environment, with frequent communication and collaboration with other kitchen staff members.
