Luau Show Male Line Captain Job Description

Job Summary:

The Luau Show Male Line Captain will work closely with the Luau Show Stage Manager and Luau Show Dancers to ensure the smooth operation of the daily Luau Show. This role requires a strong understanding of Hawaiian and Polynesian culture, as well as excellent guest service skills.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Luau Show Stage Manager in maintaining the quality of the choreography for each performance.
  • Ensure the daily preparations for the Luau Show are in order, including costumes and equipment.
  • Assign the daily performance schedule to the cast members prior to the start of each show.
  • Responsible for ensuring each performer is dressed in accordance with the standards of each number of the show.
  • Assist the Luau Show Stage Manager and the Luau Artistic Director in maintaining the quality of the choreography for each performance.
  • Take nightly show notes in the absence of the Luau Show Stage Manager and report any discrepancies in the Luau Show production to the Luau Show Stage Manager for immediate and future improvements.
  • Responsible for training all new hires in the existing choreography and providing ongoing training for existing dancers.
  • Perform the lei greeting and picture taking with guests.
  • Participate in the Imu ceremony as needed.
  • Perform the torch lighting ceremony when in operation.
  • Perform the pre-show.
  • Responsible for learning and performing all the dance numbers and songs of the show.
  • Responsible for assisting the other dancers to learn and perform all the dance numbers and songs of the show.
  • Responsible for making your own accessories and adornments using fresh greens, including ti leaf skirts, leggings, necklaces, and other items as required.
  • Responsible for caring and maintaining the costumes for each dance number, including accessories.
  • Responsible for assisting the immediate supervisor in gathering the costumes for weekly washing.
  • Responsible for supplying and maintaining your own personal items needed for all performances of the show, including hair spray, water bottle spray, brush, horse brush, comb, rubber bands for hair, black biker shorts, black bikini-style underwear, and other items as directed by the supervisor/manager.

Requirements:

  • At least 2-3 years of supervisory experience or equivalent.
  • At least 2-3 years of professional Hawaiian/Polynesian dancing experience or equivalent.
  • Previous guest service experience required.
  • Proven knowledge of Hawaiian/Polynesian culture, songs, and dances required.
