Job Title: Physical Therapy AssistantAbout the Role:

In this rewarding position as a Physical Therapy Assistant, you will play a vital role in helping patients achieve their health goals. Working under the supervision of a physical therapist, you will conduct patient assessments, testing, and therapy using standard physical therapy modalities to restore function, relieve pain, and prevent disability.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Administer physical therapy interventions as planned and directed by the Physical Therapist to facilitate quality patient care;
  • Apply therapeutic methods appropriately;
  • Instruct and assist patients, monitor patient performance and physical status to ascertain effectiveness of program;
  • Assist with patient mobility to include bed mobility, transfers, and gait; utilize modalities correctly and answer patient questions regarding use of modalities;
  • Adhere to safety practices with patient guarding;
  • Escort patients to the treatment area in preparation for treatment;
  • Establish rapport with patient in a professional manner;
  • Develop and document effective home exercise programs and supplemental instructional programs as needed;
  • Prepare comprehensive and concise assessments and documentation of patient treatment and progress and ensure information is dispensed to the appropriate parties;
  • Communicate with the Physical Therapist as needed regarding patient progress and need for goal modification;
  • Submit accurate charges in a timely manner;
  • Supervise physical therapy aides and students, when appropriate and as assigned, in accordance with the Texas Physical Therapy Practice Act guidelines. Effectively communicate treatment information to the Physical Therapy aide;
  • Fulfill continuing education and/or certification requirements to maintain required qualifications. Take responsibility to know and complete professional and technical requirements and provide documentation on such requirements. Attend available professional education programs. Review and study appropriate current physical therapy and medical literature. Present educational programs to Physical Therapy staff in a professional manner when requested;
Requirements:
  • Must be physically capable of prolonged being upright, moving, pushing, and holding;
  • Good communications skills, both verbally and in writing;
  • Good problem-solving skills;
  • Good computer skills;
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality regarding patient;
  • Must have the ability to relate professionally and positively and work cooperatively with patients, families, and other employees at all levels;

Estimated Salary:

$40,000 - $60,000 per year (dependent on experience).
