Job Description

Lutheran Services Florida (LSF) is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Center Director to lead our Head Start/Early Head Start program. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for the overall management and operation of our center, ensuring a safe and nurturing environment for young children and their families.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise and monitor education staff, ensuring compliance with federal performance standards and local licensing requirements.
  • Develop and implement educational activities for preschool-aged children and infants/toddlers, aligning with Head Start/Early Head Start Program standards.
  • Participate in Quality Assurance efforts, ensuring the highest level of quality in our program.
  • Coordinate daily activities, overseeing the implementation of educational activities, and ensuring compliance with regulatory bodies.
  • Assess educational needs of education staff, developing and implementing individual education plans.
  • Conduct classroom observations, measuring education staff performance, and maintaining CLASS scores.
  • Prepare for and achieve National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) Accreditation, ensuring compliance with annual reports, classroom supplies, and staffing requirements.
  • Provide coaching and feedback to education staff on classroom management, emotional support, and instructional support.
  • Schedule, assign, and review the work of Center staff, ensuring proper child/staff ratios and maintaining accurate staff records.
  • Supervise assigned staff, ensuring timely performance appraisals and taking corrective action as needed.
  • Monitor food service and supplies, ensuring adequate inventory and proper documentation for reimbursement.
  • Ensure a safe environment for young children, monitoring meal and snack periods, restroom activities, and playground activities.
  • Document children's progress, completing required screening and assessment forms and reports.
  • Report incidents of ringworm, head lice, or bruises to the appropriate Healthcare Specialist and Childcare Licensing.
  • Report suspected child abuse and neglect to designated state agencies and local county Child Care Licensing.
  • Complete and submit reports, reviewing Health Observations and Reports of Concern referrals submitted by Head Start/Early Head Start Teachers.
  • Plan volunteer activities for parents and community volunteers, attending and participating in workshops and meetings to acquire and disseminate information.
  • Coordinate field trips for assigned children, ordering supplies and equipment to ensure classrooms meet Head Start requirements.
  • Maintain inventory of Program assets, overseeing the maintenance of the Center, and submitting requests for repairs to facilities.
  • Inspect classrooms and grounds, ensuring the safety, orderliness, sanitation, and cleanliness of facilities.
  • Review and forward accident and incident reports, discussing plans and coordinating concerns regarding the child and family with Head Start/Early Head Start staff.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality with respect to Head Start/Early Head Start children, families, and staff.
Requirements
  • A baccalaureate or advanced degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field, with coursework equivalent to a major in Early Childhood Education.
  • Licensure or certification by the state for Pre-K teachers recognized by the local school district or state education agency.
  • Three years of experience in teaching preschool or kindergarten age, with two years of supervisory experience.
  • Some experience in financial management and budgeting preferred.
  • Previous Head Start/Early Head Start experience preferred.
  • Bilingual preferred, with English/Spanish or English and other languages present in the local area.
  • Certification in First Aid and CPR within 90 days from the date of hire, and successful completion of a Level II background screening, local criminal record check, health, TB, and drug screening prior to hiring.
