We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Technologist to join our Inpatient Lab team on a part-time basis, working nights. As a Medical Technologist, you will play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy and reliability of laboratory test results, while providing exceptional patient care and service.
Key Responsibilities- Perform all aspects of pre-analytic workflow, including specimen collection, processing, and verification.
- Verify orders and troubleshoot issues as needed.
- Collect, receive, and process specimens, ensuring they are correctly labeled and stored.
- Perform analytical testing, including preventative maintenance on instruments and equipment.
- Maintain test system integrity, ensuring reagents and supplies meet defined acceptability criteria.
- Perform quality control and quality assurance activities, including evaluating QC results and taking corrective action as needed.
- Prepare specimens for testing, including plating, culturing, filtering, and extraction.
- Perform tests, prioritizing based on assignment or established priorities, and completing testing within defined turn-around-times.
- Review and interpret test results, providing accurate and timely reporting.
- Troubleshoot and solve problems, including recognizing test system performance issues and taking corrective action.
- Store specimens and related materials according to protocols, and retrieve them as needed.
- Perform post-analytic workflow activities, including verifying and reporting results, generating written reports, and responding to inquiries.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate's or bachelor's degree in a life science or related field preferred.
- ASCP certification or equivalent required; certification in a specific laboratory discipline (e.g., chemistry, hematology, microbiology) preferred.
- Minimum 1 year of experience in a clinical laboratory setting, with a focus on inpatient laboratory testing.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
