Position Overview:
The Buyer, under the guidance of the Buying Manager, plays a crucial role in managing vendor relationships and product categories. This position is responsible for procurement, inventory management, and ensuring product availability to meet both promotional and everyday customer needs. The Buyer will also focus on enhancing category profitability through strategic sourcing and vendor negotiations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage procurement of designated product lines to optimize profitability.
- Ensure accurate data entry to maintain SKU integrity.
- Monitor inventory levels to achieve high service standards and minimize stockouts.
- Act as a liaison between the Buying Department and various internal teams, including retail operations and pricing.
- Keep internal stakeholders informed about promotions, product availability, and market trends.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers and sales representatives.
- Explore alternative distribution methods and cost-saving opportunities.
- Negotiate competitive pricing with suppliers to enhance market positioning.
- Oversee category reviews and ensure timely execution.
- Conduct regular assessments of market competition and product strategies.
- Analyze sales and profitability metrics to inform decision-making.
- Complete additional projects as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education:
- Associate's Degree or equivalent experience in grocery procurement or a related field.
- Bachelor's Degree preferred.
Experience:
- A minimum of 4 years in grocery retail buying or a related area.
Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Self-motivated with a strong initiative to drive results.
- Willingness to travel as necessary for business needs.
- Availability to address urgent matters outside of regular business hours.
