Position Summary: The Fiber Optic Project Coordinator is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of fiber optic splicing vendors across various initiatives, ensuring timely and efficient project execution.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage splicing vendors to facilitate the swift splicing and testing of fiber optic routes.
- Evaluate and confirm project requirements, including routing, fiber counts, and hut spacing, to align with stakeholder expectations.
- Coordinate access to customer and network locations for vendor activities.
- Provide expert telecommunications knowledge in fiber optic splicing and testing.
- Work collaboratively with internal project managers to optimize project timelines and financial plans.
- Ensure adherence to maintenance schedules and customer communication protocols related to splicing activities.
- Act as a liaison between customers, subcontractors, regulatory bodies, and internal teams, attending necessary meetings which may require travel.
- Oversee the procurement of necessary equipment and materials, monitoring inventory levels to prevent delays.
- Identify potential project risks proactively and develop strategies to mitigate them.
- Conduct resource planning to meet project goals effectively.
- Draft and manage Requests for Proposals (RFPs) for splicing and testing services, negotiating contracts to secure favorable terms.
- Deliver comprehensive project reports and updates to stakeholders.
- Ensure project deliverables are met on schedule and within budget, adhering to construction standards.
- Timely submission of splicing documentation to support teams for accurate project records.
Qualifications:
- A Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or a related technical field is preferred, or equivalent professional experience.
- At least five years of experience in the telecommunications sector, specifically in outside plant, fiber optics, and project management.
- Proven experience in managing large-scale capital projects and familiarity with various outside plant construction methods.
- Knowledge of fiber optic cable splicing and testing procedures.
- Strong understanding of construction standards, fiber specifications, and optical network design principles.
- Exceptional problem-solving abilities and effective communication skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Google Earth, and AutoCAD.
- Ability to manage multiple RFPs and construction schedules efficiently.
- Must possess a valid driver's license and be willing to travel as needed for project support.
- Eligibility to work in the United States is required.
