Job Summary

The Director of Custodial and Grounds Operations is responsible for ensuring that University facilities meet and support daily operational, administrative, and instructional program requirements. This position provides strategic planning, general management, professional direction, and leadership for all existing operational elements of facilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement strategic plans to maintain and improve University facilities.
  • Provide leadership and direction to custodial, grounds, and general maintenance personnel.
  • Manage and oversee the day-to-day operations of facilities, including custodial services, waste management, recycling programs, grounds maintenance, and event setups.
  • Supervise the removal of snow and ice to ensure safe conditions for students, faculty, and staff.
  • Develop and recommend improvements to existing facilities.
  • Manage the operations budget for the Facilities Department and monitor expenditures in accordance with University and State policies.
  • Coordinate with the Director of Planning and Construction and other State agencies to develop and implement solutions to facilities maintenance problems.
  • Monitor and approve time records of all custodial, grounds, and general maintenance personnel.
  • Assist with the work order system for repairs of facilities and equipment.
  • Maintain the Fixed Assets Inventory list.
  • Conduct regular spot-checks of campus facilities to ensure quality management requirements are met.

Requirements

  • Five (5) or more years of senior management experience with the ability to plan, organize, direct, and implement projects of considerable complexity and cost.
  • Familiarity with computers, accessibility, and fire/building codes.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills sufficient to prepare operation progress reports, dashboards, executive summaries, and similar documents.
  • Ability and willingness to perform on-call and respond to after-hour emergencies.
  • Schedule training to strengthen professionalism throughout the department.
