Job Overview

As a vital member of our team at Sonesta Hotels, the Bartender is responsible for delivering exceptional service to our guests while expertly crafting a variety of beverages.

Key Responsibilities

  • Welcome guests warmly as they arrive at the bar, showcasing our signature drinks and utilizing effective up-selling techniques to enhance guest experience and maximize revenue.
  • Prepare and serve beverages as requested, adhering to established standards and recipes to ensure consistency and manage costs.
  • Collaborate with the restaurant staff to coordinate food service for bar patrons when necessary.
  • Monitor guest behavior and alcohol consumption, making informed decisions regarding service cessation when appropriate; report any incidents of excessive consumption to management.
  • Verify guest identification to ensure compliance with legal drinking age requirements.
  • Address any service or safety concerns promptly, ensuring a safe and enjoyable environment for all guests.
  • Set up the bar with all necessary supplies, including liquor, mixers, ice, garnishes, and glassware.
  • Perform pre- and post-shift duties, such as cleaning and organizing the bar area, restocking supplies, and maintaining equipment.
  • Conduct inventory of unused liquor and beverages, ensuring proper security measures are in place.
  • Manage cash transactions accurately, balancing the cash drawer at the end of each shift.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the bar area, ensuring it is visually appealing and operationally efficient.
  • Foster teamwork and effective communication with other departments to enhance overall service quality.

Qualifications

  • Basic reading, writing, and math skills are essential.
  • Knowledge of various liquor brands, beer, wine, and non-alcoholic beverages, along with preparation methods and garnishments.
  • Formal bartending training is preferred.
  • Must meet state legal age requirements and possess the ability to communicate fluently in English.
  • Certification in alcohol awareness and/or food service permits as required by local regulations.
  • Ability to handle physical demands, including lifting items up to 50 pounds and moving throughout the bar and kitchen areas.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
