Position Overview:

The Department of Veterans Affairs is seeking a qualified Podiatrist to deliver exceptional patient care in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team of healthcare professionals. This role is essential in ensuring comprehensive podiatric services across various settings, including outpatient, urgent care, inpatient, and telehealth.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct thorough evaluations and manage podiatric medical and surgical conditions.
  • Perform podiatric procedures in both clinical and surgical environments.
  • Oversee clinical reviews, triage, and management of podiatric consultations.
  • Engage in the education and training of medical students, residents, and other healthcare trainees.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of medical records.
  • Participate in committees and administrative duties as directed by leadership.
Clinical Duties:

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Assessment and management of neuropathic and vascular ulcerations.
  • Utilization of devices to alleviate weight-bearing on affected areas of the foot.
  • Diagnosis and treatment of common foot conditions such as heel pain and flatfoot deformities.
  • Local care for corns, calluses, and other foot-related ailments.
  • Management of painful or infected nails, particularly in patients with systemic conditions.
Work Schedule:

The position offers various work schedules, which may include rotating call coverage and may require availability on weekends and holidays. The specific schedule will be determined based on organizational needs.

Qualifications:

Applicants must possess:

  • A Doctor of Podiatric Medicine degree from an accredited institution.
  • Completion of an accredited residency program in podiatric medicine.
  • A valid and unrestricted license to practice podiatry in the United States.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.
Physical Requirements:

This role demands visual acuity, manual dexterity, and the ability to perform tasks that may involve prolonged periods of standing, walking, and patient handling. Protective clothing may be required in certain situations.
