Lead Radiation Therapist Job Overview

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Lead Radiation Therapist to join our team at WVUH West Virginia University Hospitals. In this role, you will be responsible for overseeing the daily operations of our radiation therapy department, ensuring that patients receive high-quality care and treatment.

About the Role:

The successful candidate will have a strong background in radiation therapy, with experience in leading teams and managing complex workflows. You will work closely with our radiation oncologists, medical physicists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure that patients receive comprehensive and effective treatment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Treatment Delivery: Administer external radiation therapy to patients as prescribed by a radiation oncologist, using Varian linear accelerators (Clinac iX, Trilogy, TrueBeam) and ARIA Oncology Information System.
  • Team Leadership: Coordinate the activities of Staff Radiation Therapists to ensure quality treatment delivery and maximum utilization of equipment and personnel.
  • Clinical Problem-Solving: Collaborate with the therapist team to develop new techniques or resolve clinical problems.
  • On-Call Activities: Manage the triage of emergent cases, coordinate all on-call activities with the on-call therapist, and negotiate scheduling of patients with other departmental patient care team members.

Requirements:

  • Certifications: Graduate of a formal radiation therapy technology program accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT), licensed by the WV Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy Technology Board of Examiners, and board certified by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) in Radiation Therapy.
  • Education: Obtain certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire date.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Leadership Experience: Seven (7) years of experience as a radiation therapist, preferably in a leadership role or senior radiation therapist within a radiation oncology department.
  • Knowledge of Radiation Therapy Equipment: Familiarity with Varian linear accelerators and ARIA Oncology Information System.

Compensation: The salary range for this position is $80,000 - $120,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications.
