About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Physicist to join our Radiation Oncology team at University Health Associates. As a key member of our department, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the safe and effective delivery of radiation therapy to our patients.

Job Summary

The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting the Radiation Oncologist and other Medical Physicists in various aspects of radiation oncology, including IMRT QA, dosimetry, calibration, treatment planning, and radiation protection. You will also assist technologists, dosimetrist, and chief medical physicist with patient set-ups and make periodic checks of radiotherapy charts to ensure technical accuracy.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist with treatment planning, including development of computerized treatment planning and dosimetry for Iridium, Cesium, and other isotopes as needed for Brachytherapy.
  • Oversight of use of ionizing radiation to ensure compliance with Federal and State regulations, including making changes following inspections and updating radiation safety procedures.
  • Perform calibration of x-ray equipment in hospital, conduct radiation protection surveys as needed, and prepare and submit documents to renew and amend radioactive materials licenses.
  • Provide calibration of sealed sources, ensure periodic leak tests, and maintain accountability of sealed sources and therapeutic isotopes.
  • Design and/or obtain patient treatment aids, such as mould work and block shaping, and oversee their use.
  • Calibrate therapy machines, including input, energy, and beam profiles.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A Master of Science degree in Physics, Radiation Physics, or equivalent.
  • Certification in therapeutic radiological physics within 3 years of hire.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • The ability to lift and move patients safely, as well as maneuver through narrow spaces.
Working Environment

You will work in a fast-paced environment with exposure to body fluids, human tissues, contagious diseases, sharps, and explosive gases. You will also be exposed to ionizing and non-ionizing radiations, film processing chemicals, lead, tin, bismuth, cadmium, cleaning agents, disinfectants, toxic fumes, odors, high stress, and constant interruptions.
