Position Overview

The Senior Academic Advisor plays a pivotal role in enhancing the educational journey of students at the University of Idaho. This position is dedicated to fostering student achievement through the establishment of positive and professional relationships, while implementing proactive strategies that assist students in achieving their academic aspirations.

In addition to providing guidance similar to that of academic advisors, the Senior Academic Advisor possesses specialized knowledge in specific colleges or programs, aiding students in course selection and engagement in opportunities that align with their evolving goals and interests. This role is also crucial in supporting students' timely progression towards degree completion.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver comprehensive information and clarification regarding academic policies.
  • Build rapport and establish strong academic advising relationships.
  • Refer students to appropriate campus resources for additional support.
  • Oversee the daily operations of the academic advising team.
  • Evaluate the performance of advisors within assigned colleges.
  • Collaborate closely with the Director of University Advising Services to ensure compliance with established standards and institutional policies.

This position requires a collaborative approach with university partners to guarantee that students have access to all available support and enrichment opportunities.

Qualifications:

Required Experience:

  • Minimum of two years of experience in academic advising for undergraduate students at a higher education institution.
  • Experience in leading or developing academic advisors in their daily responsibilities.
  • Proven ability to present information effectively to individuals and groups.
  • Experience in interpreting and applying academic standards and regulations.

Required Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree.

Additional Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree.
  • Experience in an administrative role within higher education.
  • Demonstrated success in working with diverse student populations and colleagues.
  • Ability to establish and maintain quality professional relationships.
  • Experience in a supervisory capacity.
  • Proficient in engaging with students, advisors, and faculty in a respectful and meaningful manner.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Familiarity with academic regulations and policies at the University of Idaho.
  • Understanding of student development theories and best practices in advising.

Abilities:

  • Strong organizational skills to manage competing priorities effectively.
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative on projects.
  • Capability to motivate and support staff and students in recognizing their potential and overcoming challenges.

Employment Details:

This position is classified as non-exempt and is full-time. A visa sponsorship is available for qualified candidates.
