Job Summary:

The Environmental Services Technician is responsible for maintaining a clean and safe environment for patients and staff at OakLeaf Surgical Hospital. This role involves cleaning and disinfecting patient and non-patient care areas, removing refuse materials, and replacing expendable supplies.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Cleaning and Disinfection: Clean and disinfect patient and non-patient care areas, including floors, walls, and surfaces, to maintain a clean and safe environment.
  • Refuse Removal: Remove refuse materials, including trash and recyclables, from patient and non-patient care areas.
  • Supply Management: Replace expendable supplies, including linens and cleaning materials, as needed.
  • Collaboration: Work with the Environmental Services Manager to resolve linen issues and complaints, and to maintain a clean and safe environment.
  • Waste Management: Identify and remove waste streams, including regulated medical, recycle, solid, and hazardous waste.
  • Infection Prevention: Follow all environmental services and infection prevention practices, including proper cleaning and disinfection protocols, hand hygiene, and standard and isolation precautions.
  • Communication: Recognize and adhere to patient privacy requirements, and communicate effectively with staff and management.
  • Supply Inventory: Maintain appropriate Environmental Services supplies to meet hospital needs and stock as appropriate.
  • Auditing: Assist the Manager in auditing each area to ensure compliance with TJC and other performance measures.
  • Quality Improvement: Actively participate in departmental performance improvement initiatives, including initiatives to improve patient experience and cleanliness metrics.
Requirements:
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Experience: Previous cleaning experience in a hospital environment preferred.
  • Skills: Ability to relate and work effectively with others, demonstrated skills in verbal and written English communications, and willingness to participate in goal-setting and educational activities.
