Position Overview
Base Salary: $45,000 with Target Commission potential of $126,000 based on $3 million in Mortgage Loan Production
Role Summary:
This role is vital to the success of Gulf Winds by actively seeking mortgage business and promoting our mortgage offerings. Mortgage Loan Originators (MLOs) are expected to cultivate and sustain robust professional relationships with local realtors, builders, attorneys, and other mortgage referral sources. This position is accountable for delivering outstanding service by addressing inquiries and referrals from both personal efforts and other Gulf Winds channels.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct interviews with potential borrowers to evaluate financial and credit information, ascertain financing goals, inform members about product and pricing policies, and collect any additional necessary data.
- Actively pursue new mortgage loan applications by building relationships within the community, particularly with the real estate sector; making outreach calls to prospective members.
- Ensure exceptional customer service by maintaining comprehensive knowledge of lending programs, policies, procedures, and regulatory standards, demonstrating a commitment to ethical practices, and adhering to all compliance requirements.
- Contribute to mortgage loan operational standards by providing relevant information for strategic planning and reviews; implementing production, quality, and member service benchmarks; and resolving issues as they arise.
- Enhance job knowledge through participation in educational opportunities, reading industry publications, maintaining professional networks, and engaging in relevant organizations.
- Adhere to all applicable regulations and policies, including but not limited to BSA, OFAC, and Physical Security.
- Perform additional job-related duties as assigned.
Performance Metrics:
- MLO meets or surpasses established sales targets and actively cross-sells Gulf Winds products.
- Referrals are managed promptly; interviews are conducted professionally; all information is accurately gathered; rates and pricing are quoted correctly.
- Strong relationships are maintained with referral sources, resulting in a successful referral rate.
- Audits confirm compliance with all relevant regulations.
- Feedback from business partners, prospects, and members indicates consistently excellent service and follow-up from the MLO.
- Compliance with all applicable rules and regulations is maintained.
Qualifications:
- Experience: Two to three years in a similar role.
- Must meet registration requirements with NMLS.
- Education: High school diploma or GED.
- Interpersonal Skills: This role involves significant personal interaction and requires the ability to motivate, influence, and train others. Building strong relationships with external contacts is essential.
- Additional Skills:
- Knowledge of conventional and government mortgage lending guidelines.
- Understanding of processing, underwriting, and closing procedures, as well as federal regulations governing real estate lending.
- Ability to manage a substantial pipeline of loans.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Teamwork and customer service orientation are essential.
- Self-motivated, highly organized, and able to prioritize multiple tasks.
- Proficient in MS applications and capable of utilizing technology for communication and information access.
- Excellent time management skills and the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Ability to clearly communicate complex financial data and provide alternatives.
- This position may require compliance with SAFE Act Registration Requirements.
- Strong communication skills; proficiency in 10-key calculator and keyboarding required.
- Ability to read, write, comprehend, and communicate in English effectively.
- Flexibility to work standard hours, with potential for evening and weekend shifts as needed.
- Adherence to safety protocols is mandatory.
