Carpentry Supervisor

We are seeking a highly skilled Carpentry Supervisor to join our team at Brown University Health. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the activities of carpenters, locksmiths, painters, and sign makers, ensuring the design, construction, installation, maintenance, and repair of wood fixtures and flooring materials are completed to the highest standards.
Key Responsibilities- Supervise and coordinate the work of carpenters, locksmiths, painters, and sign makers
- Estimate time, labor, and materials required for projects
- Prepare and maintain related records and reports
- Participate in interviewing, recommending, selecting, training, scheduling, assigning work, and evaluating the performance of subordinate trades personnel
- Make recommendations on salary adjustments and disciplinary action, as necessary
- Manage and direct work orders for rebuilding or repairing furniture, walls, windows, and frames, custom cabinet making, medical exhibits installation, and replacement of Formica tops, floor and ceiling tiles installation, fixtures, drywall, handrails, locks, hardware, ceramic tile, packing crates, and sheetrock patching walls, painting, sign making, and similar projects
- Initiate and oversee preventative maintenance tasks, including assets like fire doors
- Determine the need for and recommend selection of subcontractor services to the supervisor for approval
- Solicit bids for materials and/or services, making recommendations based on submitted bids
- Set priority for project schedules with user departments and coordinate work with other trade supervisors, as necessary
- Adjust schedules of supervised employees, as necessary
- Visit work sites to assure satisfactory progression and provide functional guidance to carpenters, ensuring work is performed according to established safety standards
- Inspect completed work
- Prepare and maintain records and reports of projects
- Participate in the development of policies and procedures for departments, carpenters, and associated shops
- High school level of knowledge with courses in blueprint reading, carpentry, and woodworking
- Completion of a four-year apprenticeship program to Journeyman or equivalent on-the-job training
- Knowledge of means, methods, and codes for typical carpentry finish services and commercial construction
- Supervisory skills to direct and evaluate the work of subordinate trades personnel
- Analytical and organizational skills to plan, schedule, and coordinate work projects and prepare estimates and other appropriate materials
- Knowledge of carpentry, including design, construction, and repair of a variety of wooden fixtures and structures
- Minimum of five years of experience performing full-range carpentry duties
- Supervises up to 15 FTEs and provides functional guidance to others who may be assigned on a project basis
