Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and certified Lifeguard to join our team at the YMCA of Greater Providence. As a Lifeguard, you will be responsible for maintaining a safe and positive atmosphere in our pool and aquatic areas, while promoting and maintaining safe swimming conditions in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain active surveillance of the pool area and respond to emergency situations immediately in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.
  • Know and review all emergency procedures and complete related reports as required.
  • Respond to challenges with possible solutions in a timely manner and remain calm and objective when under pressure.
  • Maintain accurate records as required by the YMCA and/or the state health department code.
  • Perform equipment checks and ensure appropriate equipment is available as needed.
  • Check the pool for hazardous conditions when arriving and perform chemical testing when not guarding, as required.
Qualifications
  • Ability to become certified in basic life support or professional rescuer CPR/AED, first aid, and emergency oxygen administration.
  • Current or ability to become certified YMCA Lifeguard or equivalent.
  • Child abuse prevention training within 30 days of hire date.
  • Ability to maintain certification-level physical and mental readiness.
  • Must demonstrate lifeguard skills in accordance with YMCA standards.
