AIRPORT PROJECT ENGINEER

Ideal Candidate: Our preferred candidate will possess over 3 years of varied experience in roadway design. A readiness to engage in diverse tasks supporting multiple project types and managers is essential.

This role provides an opportunity to collaborate with a vibrant aviation team on an array of projects, including:

  • Airport planning and design
  • Airfield layout and safety plans
  • Civil design and construction projects
  • Facilities design and environmental studies

The Aviation group at Westwood is involved in a wide range of projects, necessitating the preparation of various civil engineering and Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) reports and plans for large-scale projects, ensuring timely and proficient delivery to achieve client success.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with a team to prepare plans, specifications, and cost estimates for projects of varying sizes and complexities.
  • Develop plan documents and supporting design calculations.
  • Create detailed construction drawings utilizing AutoCAD Civil 3D.
  • Support project managers and team members in design oversight and coordination throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Assist in cost estimation, permitting, and client relations to ensure timely delivery of quality outcomes.
  • Work with other project managers to define and execute deliverables across multiple projects.
  • Foster and maintain successful client relationships while establishing new connections.
  • Some assignments may involve construction observation duties.
  • Mentor and guide less experienced engineers and technical support staff.
  • Ensure adherence to division, regional, and company values and practices within the survey service.
  • Exemplify solid judgment, integrity, and professionalism.

Required Skills:

  • Knowledge of aviation planning, programming, design, and construction is advantageous.
  • Experience with FAA Advisory Circulars and Bureau of Aeronautics policies is preferred.
  • Background in construction and estimating for public infrastructure projects is a plus.
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Proactive approach with a strong sense of urgency to meet project deadlines.
  • Detail-oriented with a commitment to fostering a positive work environment.
  • Able to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • Proficient in Autodesk Civil3D and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Competent in applying ADA/PROWAG criteria in public infrastructure design.
  • Technical skills necessary to complete engineering tasks effectively.
  • Ability to delegate tasks and determine appropriate methods and procedures.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license.

Required Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering.
  • Licensed Professional Civil Engineer (PE) in Wisconsin or capable of obtaining licensure within 6 months.
  • Minimum of 3 years of progressive experience in civil engineering is preferred.
