Nursing Unit Director

The Nursing Unit Manager is responsible for overseeing and directing nursing care for residents, as well as supervising daily nursing activities on assigned units of the Skilled Nursing Facility.
Key Responsibilities- Direct and supervise daily functions of nursing staff on assigned units, ensuring compliance with current rules, regulations, and guidelines.
- Ensure all nursing personnel comply with written policies and procedures established by the facility.
- Participate in updating and reviewing care plans, identifying goals, problems, approaches, and revisions.
- Administer professional nursing services as needed, commensurate with the scope of practice.
- Meet with assigned nursing staff to discuss planning, services, programs, and activities, and monitor duties as directed.
- Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to ensure total resident care is maintained.
- Manage quality and accuracy of Electronic Health Records (EHR) for residents and staff under supervision.
- Oversee unit-based performance metrics, including falls, FAPU, QM's, re-hospitalizations, and other key indicators.
- Ensure quality of resident admissions, transfers, and discharges.
- Participate in resident and family orientation, addressing issues in a timely manner and reporting significant events to the Director of Nursing.
- Communicate with healthcare practitioners to review treatment plans, complete orders, and progress notes, in accordance with established policies.
- Oversee completion of accident/incident reports involving residents, reporting to the IDT.
- Complete monthly Recapitulations for physician signature, reporting discrepancies to the Director of Nursing.
- Ensure adequate supply of floor stock medications, supplies, and equipment to meet resident care needs.
- Conduct employee performance evaluations, making recommendations for discipline, dismissal, and/or transfers to the Director of Nursing.
- Ability to make independent decisions and follow instructions, with guidance as needed.
- Ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel, and the general public.
- Ability to work with ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and potentially hostile individuals within the facility.
- Ability to speak, write, and understand English in a manner sufficient for effective communication with supervisors, employees, residents, and families.
- At least 6 months experience as a nurse leader (direct or indirect care).
- Supervisory leadership experience is preferred.
- Current, unencumbered, active license to practice as an RN in Florida.
