Job Summary

The Senior Vice President, Department of Psychiatry, serves as the lead administrator of the planned Mass General Brigham (MGB) Academic Medical Center (AMC) Department of Psychiatry. This role will facilitate and contribute to the integration of the two premier departments of psychiatry, consistent with the vision and direction of the Mass General Brigham system.

Key Responsibilities
  • Leadership
    • Determine the overall vision, mission, direction, goals, and objectives of the department.
    • Establish and maintain clear communications with department leaders as to each area's performance.
    • Interact and build strong working relationships with peers and clinical leadership from other departments, hospitals, and systems within Mass General Brigham Behavioral and Mental Health (BMH).
  • Clinical Management
    • Lead the evaluation, development, and implementation of strategies for the growth, management, and integration of clinical services throughout the AMCs and across hospital and network service settings.
    • Oversee operations of clinical services provided in ambulatory, inpatient, psychiatric emergency and procedural services.
    • Work with MGB's compliance, revenue, and budget teams to maximize revenue in all clinical services.
  • Research and Grants Management
    • Work with the chair regarding strategic research planning and growth in the context of advances in technology, science, and the funding environment in collaboration with hospital leadership.
    • Lead and maintain research administration infrastructure, including management responsibility for administrators and grant managers and support staff across numerous research sites.
  • Education and Training Management
    • Support the administration of the Mass General joint w/McLean Hospital (72 adult psychiatry residents and 18 child psychiatry fellows) and Brigham residency programs (56 adult psychiatry residents); psychiatry clinical fellowship programs (32 fellows, some of which are joint); psychology internship programs (19 interns); psychology post-doctoral programs (41+ fellows); and continuing medical education programs.
    • Oversee financial management of training programs, including implementing and ensuring compliance with professional billing activities as applicable.
  • Organizational Administration
    • Serve as the principal liaison to other MGB and hospital departments and services such as: Patient Care Services; Network Development; Marketing; Office of General Counsel; Development; Public Affairs and Communications; Research Management; Budget and Finance.
    • Coordinate the development, preparation, and distribution of departments' publications and communications; coordinate the departments quinquennial HMS clinical DOP review.
  • Financial Management
    • Develop and manage faculty compensation plans to ensure fair and equitable compensation as well as market competitiveness regionally and nationally.
    • Work to maintain the solvency of departmental funds. Supervise staff who are responsible for approving expenditures, assigning cost centers, monitoring compliance with budgets, and identifying and investigating potential problem areas and proposing solutions.
  • Human Resources Management
    • Review, edit, and finalize new hire letters for faculty and fellows.
    • Supervise/mentors approximately ten individuals directly: and indirectly responsible for over 800 weekly employees.
    • Work with Human Resources teams to manage often sensitive issues that arise with weekly staff and faculty.
