Job Summary

The University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics is seeking a highly skilled Pharmacy Technician to join our team in the Department of Pharmaceutical Care. As a Pharmacy Technician, you will play a critical role in supporting the dispensing activities of our pharmacy team, ensuring the accuracy and efficiency of medication distribution to patients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform inventory maintenance activities, including reviewing and replenishing medication stock, to ensure optimal inventory levels and minimize waste.
  • Conduct daily, weekly, and monthly inventories of narcotics and controlled substances, ensuring accurate documentation and compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Assist pharmacists in conducting inspections of medications stored on patient care units, ensuring the integrity and security of medications.
  • Deliver medications to patient care areas, return medications from patient care areas that are no longer needed, and maintain accurate records of medication distribution.
  • Utilize various equipment, including laminar flow hoods, computerized label printers, and pneumatic tube systems, to support medication preparation and distribution.
  • Maintain a clean and organized workspace, adhering to policies and procedures for cleanliness and sterility.
  • Participate in quality assurance activities, including documenting quality control records and maintaining competencies in sterile product preparation.
  • Perform tasks associated with refilling AcuDose Medstations, following proper procedures for restocking and maintaining accurate records.
Requirements
  • Registered with the Pharmacy Board at the time of hire.
  • National certification through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or the National Healthcareer Association (NHA), with ongoing education requirements and maintenance of certification.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience in the natural sciences or satisfactory completion of an accredited pharmacy technician training program.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Ability to perform ratio/proportion equations.
  • Experience with inventory maintenance activities.
  • Experience working in a team environment.
  • Experience working in a detail-oriented work environment.
  • Knowledge of Windows-based computer programs.
  • Experience working in a healthcare environment with one-on-one patient interaction and experience handling challenging interactions.
