Job Summary

The Iowa River Landing Pharmacy is seeking a Pharmacy Technician Trainee to join our team. As a Pharmacy Technician Trainee, you will work under the supervision of a pharmacist to perform various tasks associated with drug distribution and control. This is an excellent opportunity to gain experience and develop your skills in a fast-paced pharmacy environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare patient-specific and batch sterile products, including hazardous medications, under pharmacist supervision.
  • Perform daily cleanroom maintenance activities, including cleaning and decontamination of equipment and review of maintenance records.
  • Provide patient/customer service at the triage area, communicating with patients and healthcare personnel in accordance with established guidelines.
  • Receive and screen prescriptions for completeness and check for prescription readiness.
  • Conduct interviews with patients or their representatives to collect and record patient profile information.
  • Determine waiting/pick-up time and triage prescriptions to the appropriate team.
  • Answer telephone lines and triage phone calls per established policies and procedures.
  • Enter patient profile information, coverage/third-party information, and prescriptions into the computer system.
  • Fill/refill prescriptions, including reading labels for accuracy and packaging medications correctly.
  • Prepare prescriptions for mailing and shipping according to established policies and procedures.
  • Perform inventory maintenance activities, including returning stock medications and conducting daily and monthly drug inventories and audits.
  • Generate and/or maintain records related to prescription dispensing, including hard copies of prescriptions and mailing/shipping forms/logs.
  • Conduct assigned audits in patient care clinic areas, including reviewing medication security, segregation of dosage forms, and expiration dates.
Requirements
  • Registered with the Pharmacy Board at the time of hire.
  • Certified as a pharmacy technician within one year of employment.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Any combination of two years of post-high school experience and/or education in the natural sciences, or satisfactory completion of an accredited pharmacy technician training program.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Ability to perform ratio/proportion equations.
  • Experience in a retail pharmacy setting.
  • Previous healthcare experience preferred.
  • Experience with inventory maintenance activities.
  • Experience working in a team environment.
  • Experience working in healthcare with one-on-one patient interaction.
