Role Overview

This position is situated within the Blue Origin Engines division, focusing on the design, development, manufacturing, and testing of propulsion systems.

Our versatile engine family is set to power the future of rockets for various sectors, including commercial, civil, national security, and human spaceflight.

As a key member of our dynamic team, you will develop software utilized by our design, analysis, and testing teams.

Collaboration with engineering teams will be essential to gather requirements and create software that meets or surpasses those needs. This role will emphasize tools for modeling the performance of liquid rocket engine components, contributing to the success of all Blue Engines products.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop, enhance, and assess software for design, analysis, and testing teams.
  • Collect project requirements from engineering teams.
  • Plan development project roadmaps and communicate progress to stakeholders.
  • Document and validate all delivered code, providing training on proper usage.
Minimum Qualifications
  • B.S. degree in aerospace, mechanical, or a related engineering field.
  • 2+ years of experience in software development for analytical purposes.
  • 1+ years of experience in building or modifying solvers for fluid dynamics and/or heat transfer.
  • Strong grasp of finite volume and/or finite element analysis and numerical methods.
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent proficiency in Python or MATLAB.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Self-directed with the capacity to manage multiple tasks.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or lawfully admitted refugee/asylee.
Preferred Qualifications
  • M.S. or Ph.D. in aerospace or mechanical engineering.
  • Experience with CI/CD processes.
  • Familiarity with version control systems, preferably Git.
  • Proficient in at least one compiled language for scientific computing, such as Fortran, C, or C++.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing software development projects.
  • Experience in modeling engine component performance, including pumps, turbines, injectors, combustors, and valves.
  • Expertise in writing complex software to tackle challenging physics problems.
  • Strong foundation in engineering principles, including thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and heat transfer.
  • Experience with collaboration tools like JIRA and Confluence.
Compensation and Benefits

Compensation ranges for applicants may vary based on location and role type. Benefits include medical, dental, vision, life insurance, paid parental leave, short and long-term disability, a 401(k) plan with company matching, and an Education Support Program.

Paid time off includes up to four weeks per year based on scheduled hours, plus up to 14 company-paid holidays.
