About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Fluids Design Engineer III to join our team at Blue Origin. As a key member of our Lunar Transportation business unit, you will play a critical role in designing and developing the propulsion and fluid systems for our spacecraft.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and develop propulsion and fluid systems for lunar spacecraft, including complete life cycle from definition to operation.
  • Own components from initial design to analyzing data from their landing on the moon.
  • Understand and contribute to flight piping and instrumentation diagrams and schematics.
  • Design and perform 1st order analyses to verify designs.
  • Work with suppliers or Blue Origin groups to identify and procure components.
  • Build lunar vehicles in CAD by modeling valves, propulsion elements, sensors, piping, and other equipment in the flight vehicle.
  • Size, select material, and analyze piping and supporting structure for structural integrity due to pressure, vibration, fracture, fatigue, etc.
  • Manage suppliers and other support to procure, fabricate, and install flight hardware.
  • Create and manage project plans for various hardware, including cost and schedule.
  • Mentor entry-level engineers and perform technical peer reviews.
Requirements
  • B.S. degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in aerospace propulsion and fluid analysis and piping design, including process component selection and process fluid design architecture.
  • Knowledge of propulsion and fluid system components, including valves, regulators, and pumps for cryogenics, propellants, and other fluids.
  • Experience performing structural and fluid design and analysis of piping and tubing systems, and using analysis tools such as ANSYS, Thermal Desktop.
  • Experience interpreting and generating Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs).
  • Experience creating fabrication and installation drawings with ProEngineer/Creo.
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of collaboration and inclusion.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with ProEngineer/Creo, Windchill, and ProPiping.
  • Knowledge of standard installation and fabrication methods of piping systems, including tube stock, fittings, connections, fasteners, welding, etc.
  • Advanced Engineering degree.
  • Experience with static and non-linear FEA analysis (ANSYS).
