Position Overview
At Houston Methodist, the Clinical Coordinator for Respiratory Services is a key clinician who operates within a designated service line patient demographic or serves as the Education and Quality Coordinator for the entire Respiratory Care Services.

Key Responsibilities
This role encompasses significant contributions at various levels, including bedside care, unit operations, service line management, and institutional collaboration. Responsibilities include:

  • Evaluating unit requirements related to Respiratory Care and inter-professional collaboration.
  • Engaging in quality assurance and improvement initiatives.
  • Supporting service line expansion and enhancement.
  • Assisting in the formulation and execution of new protocols, policies, and procedures.
  • Coordinating educational efforts within the unit and acting as a clinical resource.

As a clinical expert, the Clinical Coordinator assesses staff performance, identifies educational needs, and develops training programs, providing management with insights on employee progress.

People Management Functions
This position fosters a positive workplace culture, coordinating staff activities in the assigned area/service line to ensure optimal patient care. Responsibilities include:

  • Establishing effective communication with partners, clinicians, and department leadership to relay critical patient care information.
  • Developing, training, and mentoring team members to enhance their skills and competencies.
  • Maintaining open communication with staff and addressing concerns from employees, patients, and physicians.
  • Implementing protocols and objectives to enhance staff performance, patient safety, and customer service.

Operational Functions
The Clinical Coordinator assists management with daily operations by:

  • Assessing daily departmental needs and reallocating resources as necessary.
  • Providing for the physical needs of patients and performing complex respiratory care procedures.
  • Creating individualized patient care plans and adjusting team activities to optimize patient throughput and experience.

Quality and Safety Functions
This role involves regular patient assessments, monitoring treatment progress, and collaborating with the interprofessional team to modify treatment plans as needed. Responsibilities include:

  • Ensuring accurate documentation of patient education and procedures.
  • Assisting in the development and revision of departmental policies and procedures.
  • Conducting quality audits on equipment and team performance.

Financial Responsibilities
The Clinical Coordinator aids management in evaluating products and managing service charges, ensuring efficient use of resources and staffing.

Growth and Innovation Functions
This position identifies opportunities for professional development among staff and assists in scheduling necessary training related to new products and procedures.

Education and Experience Requirements
Associate's degree required, with five years of experience as a Respiratory Care Practitioner, including at least three years in an ICU or supervisory role.

Licenses and Certifications
Required: RRT, RCP, and additional certifications as specified. Preferred: NRP and PALS certifications.
