The Operations Manager for the Clearance Center oversees the smooth functioning of the facility, ensuring accountability for all operational activities. This role involves leading the team to meet set objectives related to sales, production, customer service, payroll, safety, and expense management, while closely working with the Site Manager to meet established standards and targets. Goodwill Southern California places a high priority on the health and well-being of its employees.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Execute manager-on-duty tasks as directed by the Site Manager, including cash register operations, training, leading, and motivating team members to achieve goals while adhering to established company standard operating procedures (SOP).
  2. Deliver exceptional service by engaging with each team member, customer, and donor, maintaining a friendly and cooperative demeanor. Exemplify, communicate, and mentor our Mission and RISE (Respect, Integrity, Service, and Excellence) Values to team members, customers, and donors.
  3. Maintain a safe working environment by ensuring cleanliness and safety in accordance with all established company policies and procedures, exercising caution in all work-related activities.
  4. Train and guide team members on de-escalation techniques when interacting with the public and on proper loss prevention protocols.
  5. Identify and report concerns, reaching out to the District Manager for assistance when the Site Manager is unavailable.
  6. Supervisory duties include training team members, planning, assigning, scheduling, and directing work; providing input on performance evaluations; recognizing and developing team members; addressing complaints and resolving issues. Follow up on all assigned projects and provide corrective feedback under the Site Manager's guidance.
  7. Oversee and maintain the sales floor, production area, structural integrity, electrical systems, store equipment, landscaping, housekeeping, loss prevention, and safety in accordance with company standards.
  8. Operations: Train, audit, and coach team members to process merchandise to meet quantity, quality, and key performance indicator (KPI) business objectives, following established SOPs and guidelines. Train, audit, and coach team members on Give at the Register (GATR), Customer Relationship Marketing (CRM), and promoting sales and programs to achieve goals.
  9. Team-Centered Activities: Conduct initial interviews and assist with selection processes. Collaborate with the Site Manager to coach and counsel, draft weekly schedules, review timesheets, and assist with terminations. Ensure breakroom and office areas meet company standards and all required postings are current.
  10. Compliance: Assist with audits including Health and Safety, Loss Prevention, and Store Audits, ensuring issues are addressed. Complete work orders and manage hazardous materials. Train team members on de-escalation procedures and facilitate training on company SOPs to ensure compliance in all areas including Safety, Salesfloor, Warehouse, Parking Lot, Kaizen, and Merchandising. Assist with sharing daily business results.
  11. Work flexible shifts, including nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed. May be required to work at a nearby location.
  12. Assist in the Truck Swap process and perform necessary cleaning and janitorial tasks.
  13. Attend meetings and training sessions as required. If driving for work events, a valid CDL and required auto insurance are necessary.
  14. This position supervises 5-10 team members when acting as manager-on-duty.

Qualifications

  • 1-3 years of supervisory experience in a customer-focused management role.
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required; a college degree is advantageous.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects of varying scope and complexity with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to communicate Goodwill's purpose to the public and solicit monetary donations and customer/donor information.
  • Bilingual in Spanish is a plus.
  • Proficient in using computers and technology necessary for assigned tasks.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Outlook and capable of completing surveys using electronic platforms.
  • Strong communication, training, development, and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated success in process accountability and multitasking.
  • Ability to handle confidential information responsibly.
  • Punctual and reliable attendance.
  • Free from substance abuse.
  • Understanding of Goodwill's fundamental philosophy and active participation in its mission.
  • Adherence to Goodwill's values of Respect, Integrity, Service, and Excellence.
