Job Overview

In the role of Embedded Firmware Validation Engineer within the Solid State Drives (SSD) division at Diverse Lynx, you will be responsible for executing firmware functional integration tasks that guarantee the firmware subsystem adheres to the quality, functional, and performance standards required at each integration milestone throughout the product development lifecycle. You will design and implement a functional integrity testing process aimed at continuously enhancing pre-integration firmware quality, as well as conduct failure analysis on firmware-related issues to identify root causes for Enterprise Solid State Drives products.

This position also entails the creation of automated solutions to validate firmware functionality, ensuring reliability, endurance, and performance criteria for Solid State Drives targeted at the enterprise sector.

Collaboration with fellow firmware testing engineers, firmware developers, system hardware design engineers, product engineers, Flash memory design engineers, and production engineers will be essential to address cross-functional design challenges.

As necessary, you will validate designs using various verification techniques, including simulation, FPGA prototyping, and product testing.

Your primary focus will be on firmware quality within the system and the intended application, as well as the development of new testing tools and methodologies.

Utilizing analysis tools or software, you will effectively demonstrate the analysis of functional or performance challenges associated with the firmware and hardware in testing environments or target host systems.


Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Conduct failure analysis on NVMe SSD firmware issues and ascertain root causes.
  • Comprehend SSD firmware and testing algorithms and architectures.
  • Manage project-specific hardware setups and provide support to team members regarding specific hardware and tool configurations and qualifications.
  • Develop automated testing procedures and infrastructure to enhance coverage and efficiency.
  • Collaborate with project teams for all failure analysis-related activities.
  • Complete all tasks on schedule with high quality, proactively communicating any challenges or risks.
  • Engage in SCRUM meetings and report on the progress of all assigned tasks.

Technical and Other Requirements:

  • Expertise in SSD firmware design utilizing assembly, C, and C++ programming, along with Python scripting.
  • Proficiency in object-oriented design and architecture for reusability.
  • Ability to define and document sound architectural designs and models.
  • Familiarity with storage systems, Flash memory, and device drivers (preferred).
  • Knowledge of storage interfaces such as ONFI, NVMe, PCIe.
  • Proficiency in debugging embedded firmware applications.
  • Experience with development toolchains targeted for embedded processors.
  • Familiarity with testing equipment such as oscilloscopes and logic/bus analyzers.
  • Capability to analyze complex SSD firmware and hardware issues.
  • High skill level in problem recreation and troubleshooting.
  • Ability to devise creative solutions to challenging problems.
  • Strong self-motivation and dedication.
  • Capacity to work effectively within a team spread across various global locations.
  • Ability to multitask efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Hands-on experience in firmware development and verification, system failure analysis, and problem-solving.
