Position Overview:


The Lead Material Handling Specialist is accountable for overseeing material handling responsibilities, which encompass SAP material transactions, kanban management, kitting, and shipping & receiving operations. This role involves loading and unloading delivery vehicles, managing inventory control, and reconciling materials while expediting their movement through the handling process.

In collaboration with the Area Supervisor, the Lead will assist in daily operations and special projects throughout the warehouse. This position also requires prioritizing and allocating resources effectively for various daily tasks and initiatives. Close cooperation with purchasing and planning teams is essential to address material-related issues and process challenges.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with the Area Supervisor to meet daily departmental objectives.
  • Assist in special projects within the department.
  • Guide daily operations to ensure compliance with 5S standards.
  • Verify incoming materials against accepted standards for part numbers, quantities, and lot/serial numbers.
  • Conduct data entry for material transfer documentation.
  • Issue materials to kanbans on the production floor based on two-bin system triggers.
  • Scan empty bins for replenishment as needed.
  • Maintain the two-bin empty report by confirming material availability and updating status changes.
  • Send kanban orders for replenishment materials to suppliers.
  • Follow up with procurement on the status of short materials.
  • Expedite critical materials from receiving to inspection and through the stockroom to production.
  • Perform accurate data entry and cycle counts for raw materials and subassemblies as required.
  • Work with the Area Supervisor to resolve cycle count discrepancies.
  • Follow designated routes on the manufacturing floor to replenish empty material kanbans.

Receiving Responsibilities:
  • Welcome carriers and confirm box counts.
  • Conduct damage assessments and perform receiving transactions in the SAP system.
  • Collaborate with purchasing to address receiving discrepancies.
  • Facilitate the expedited inspection process for materials as necessary.

Shipping Responsibilities:
  • Retrieve items as per sales orders.
  • Execute shipping transactions in the SAP system.
  • Utilize FedEx, UPS, and other freight manifest systems for order shipments.
  • Coordinate with customer service to resolve any shipping issues.

Operate forklift and pallet jack equipment as required. Assist the Area Supervisor in generating departmental metrics. In the absence of the Area Supervisor, allocate resources to manage daily workloads effectively, including regular tasks and projects. Ensure compliance with GMP by adhering to area procedures and communicating any non-compliance issues. Participate in training new employees and engage in continuous improvement and lean initiatives. Maintain employee training metrics for the area and support finance with month-end reporting tasks.
