Position Overview

The Phlebotomist plays a crucial role in the healthcare team by collecting and processing clinical laboratory specimens from patients. This position requires a commitment to maintaining high standards of patient care and laboratory protocols.

Key Responsibilities

  • Facilitates the timely delivery of physicians' reports through various communication methods.
  • Executes venipuncture procedures on patients across all age groups, ensuring adherence to established techniques and protocols.
  • Maintains a clean and organized work environment, ensuring that supplies are stocked and ready for use.
  • Oversees the laboratory information system, including monitoring and addressing error logs.
  • Collects necessary patient information for accurate billing and diagnosis purposes.
  • Handles the receipt and accessioning of laboratory samples.
  • Manages reference laboratory orders and results efficiently.
  • May conduct waived laboratory tests on-site, reporting results in compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Assists in the processing of specimens and pre-analytical testing procedures.
  • Provides training and support to students and other staff members in phlebotomy techniques.

Qualifications

  • No prior experience is required upon hiring.
  • Preferred certifications include CPT from the National Healthcareer Association (NHA), PBT from the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP), or RPT from American Medical Technologists (AMT).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required within 90 days of employment.
