The Patient Care Technician (PCT) plays a vital role in assisting healthcare professionals with various care activities and related nonclinical services. Under the general supervision of the Patient Care Manager or designee, the PCT provides support to Registered Nurses (RNs) and/or Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) in delivering patient care, including caring for the personal needs and comfort of patients and their families in a professional, courteous, and supportive manner.
Duties and Essential Functions- Assists RN/LPN with non-nursing tasks such as crash cart checks, quality control checks, retrieving equipment/supplies, and maintaining a clean and stocked department.
- Assists RN/LPN with routine patient care and treatment, including vital signs, intake/output, pain level assessment, administering enemas, applying hot/cold packs, and transporting patients.
- Recognizes and practices within scope of certification and competency levels, relaying any questions, concerns, or situations requiring follow-up or attention to the supervising RN/LPN.
- Effectively communicates pertinent information in shift-to-shift and transfer reports and documents items in EPIC as indicated.
- Minimum requirement: High School diploma or GED and completion of an approved State Registered Nursing Assistant Program.
- Holds current certification as a State Registered Nursing Assistant (SRNA) in the State of Kentucky.
- Achieves and maintains American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Achieves and maintains Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (CPI) within 90 days of start.
Constantly works near moving mechanical parts and is exposed to blood and/or body fluids and infection. Occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals and risk of radiation. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
Physical Demands- Occasionally required to maintain a stationary position (standing or sitting).
- Frequently required to walk and move about, operate a computer, and use fine motor skills to handle and operate instruments/devices.
- Constantly required to lift and/or move items up to 10 pounds and frequently required to lift and/or move items up to 50 pounds.
- Occasionally required to lift and/or move items up to 100 pounds and constantly required to communicate with patients and other care team members.
